This is what I've noticed in the IPL's short history.
1) KKR and MI have a good chance of making it to the final of IPL3 if the record of RCB and DC is anything to go by. RCB and DC finished 7th and 8th respectively in 2008 but bounced to end up 2nd and 1st respectively.
2009's 7th and 8th: MI and KKR respectively now need to bounce back to save their reputations.
2) DDD will be beaten in the semi finals by the eventual winner of the title. RR beat them in 2008 while DC beat them in 2009. Both went on to win the IPL.
3) If you're playing in the semi final and have the Orange Cap among your ranks, you will be beaten by the eventual 1st runner up of the tournament. Shaun Marsh was in KXIP in 2008 but they were beaten by CSK. CSK lost the final to RR.
In 2009, Matthew Hayden powered CSK to the semis but their tournament was ended by RCB who went on to lose the final to DC ( who beat DDD)
Also, both the Orange Caps till now have been left handed opening batsmen.
4) Winning team will have the Purple Cap among their ranks. Sohail Tanvir took RR over and across the line in 2008 while RP Singh was the main man for DC in 2009.
Also both Purple Caps till now have been left arm pacers.
If anyone has any other pattern from the IPL please share it here!
