Pakistan T20 World Cup Team For 2022

Introduction

The biggest cricketing event of the year is all set to begin. The seventh edition of the ICC men’s T20 World Cup will start on October 16 this year. Before that mega event, all the teams are now finding their right combinations, and Pakistan is no exception. According to the latest fixtures announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Pakistan will be in group 2 along with India, South Africa, and Bangladesh. They will play their first match on October 23 against India in Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The last edition of the ICC T20 World Cup was quite phenomenal for the Pakistan cricket team in many ways. Although they did not reach the final, they played an outstanding brand of cricket throughout the tournament. They were the table-toppers of group 2 in the super 12 group stage. Pakistan reached the semi-finals by winning all five matches. The dream run of Pakistan was ended when Australia beat them by five wickets in the semi-finals. And this time the World cup will be in Australia. So, Pakistan will have an excellent opportunity to avenge its defeat against Australia in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2021. So here in this article, we will try to find this year’s probable squad for the Pakistan T20 World Cup team.

History

Pakistan is one of the most successful teams as far as World Cup T20 is concerned. In the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, Pakistan reached the final under the captaincy of Shoaib Malik. In that nail-biting match, Misbah and Co. fought till the end, but they were beaten by India when Sreesanth took that catch at short fine leg in the last ball of the match. After becoming runners-up in 2007, they became the champion of ICC World T20 in 2009 under the captaincy of Misbah-ul-Haq. Pakistan also reached the semi-finals of the 2010 and 2012 T20 World Cup and became the only team to reach the semi-finals in the first four editions of the tournament.
In World Cup 2021 also, they were the team to watch out for. At the very first game of the tournament, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan did what their previous generations could not do. They defeated India for the first time in any world cup match. They completely outplayed India in all three departments. And this performance was not a fluke. In the last few years, they progressed a lot in the game's shortest format. They showed a fearless, aggressive kind of batting strategy similar to England. They have always been in the top three in ICC T20 ranking for the last three-four years.

Previous coaches and captains:

The current captain of Pakistan in all three formats is Babar Azam. He is currently the number 1 T20 batsman in the world. He was the captain of the Pakistan team in World cup 2021, and he will do the same in the T20 World Cup 2022 as well. Before him, Sahid Afridi, Sohaib Malik, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Hafeez also did captaincy for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.
Just before the last world cup, former Australian opener Mathew Hyden and South African pacer Vernon Philander were appointed as the coaching staff of Pakistan. In contrast, former Pak spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is currently their head coach.

Likely squad for T20 World Cup Pakistan Team

Let's look at the players likely to be picked for the Pakistan Team for T20 World Cup 2022. The backbone of their batting lineup is always their top order, especially the openers. Captain Babar Azam will open the innings with young wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan. They were one of the most successful opening pairs in the last world cup. And currently, according to the ICC rankings, Babar and Rizwan are the top two T20 batsmen in the world.
Both of them are class players who play orthodox shots into the gaps. They can give a fiery start in every match by making exclusive use of batting powerplay. If one of them plays till the fifteenth-sixteenth over, then he will set Pakistan in a dominating position. In his maiden campaign, Babar was consistent with the bat also. He made four half-centuries in six innings. Rizwan scored 281 runs at an average of 70.25, including his 67 in the semi-finals after spending two nights in hospital before the match.
Number three on the Pakistan T20 team player list will be Fakhar Zaman. He was unable to deliver in the super 12 group stage, but the team management backed him. In return, he made a quick half-century in the semi-finals, which put them into a fighting position.
The middle order of Pakistan is a perfect mixture of youth and experience. It includes veterans Sohaib Malik and Asif Ali, as well as young Haider Ali and Azam Khan. Asif Ali plays the role of a finisher in the team. He played two match-winning knocks against New Zealand and Afghanistan in the last World Cup. Considering Sarfaraz Ahmed’s exclusion from the team and the rise of Rizwan as the primary wicket-keeper, Pakistan team management invested in young Azam Khan as the backup wicket-keeper of the team who can be handy with the bat also.
Then comes the bowling attack of Pakistan, which is not any less than the batting lineup. The spin duo of Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim not only can take wickets in the middle order but can also score runs in the lower middle-order if needed.
Now comes their pace battery, the strongest part of this side. The fast bowling unit featuring Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi will be their main weapon in Australian conditions. Left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is deadly with the new ball. He can pick two or more wickets in the powerplay to set Pakistan at a dominating position at the very beginning of the match. In the bouncy wicket of Adelaide Oval and Melbourne Cricket Ground, this bowling attack will be more destructive. Newcomers like Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim Jr. will also be in the mix to get picked in the World Cup Squad.
Probable Squad: Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Rizwan (vice-captain) (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Azam Khan(wk), Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Khusdil Shah, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr.
