South Africa T20 World Cup Team For 2022

Introduction

The ICC T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia, begins in October 2022. In men's international cricket, Cricket South Africa (CSA), its cricket governing body, administers the South Africa cricket team or the Proteas. South Africa has Test, One-Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) status with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and will be one of the participating teams in the T20 World Cup. They will play their first match tentatively on 24th October. The team features several accomplished players and is set to win the T20 World Cup.

History

South Africa was one of the favourites in the 2003 World Cup, but they were eliminated in the group stages after incorrectly counting the number of runs required. They've also gotten a bad rap for losing crucial matches in global tournaments like the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002 and the ICC World Twenty20 in 2007.
The South African cricket team began to rise in the ICC rankings after high-class players such as AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla joined the team. However, following the retirement of many of the key players from the Australian side that dominated the early 2000s, the ICC Test Championship was a wide-open race, with India and England both having brief stints as the top two teams.
South Africa's ODI and T20I performances were far less consistent as they looked for a winning formula ahead of the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup and 2015 ICC Cricket World Cups.
South Africa's recent struggles have been highlighted by a notable ODI series loss to New Zealand at home in January 2013 and a further loss in Sri Lanka. South Africa's exits from the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy only added to their reputation as significant tournament 'chokers.'

Faf du Plessis has won the most T20 internationals for South Africa amongst the South Africa T20 World Cup Captains. South Africa won 23 of the 37 games under Plessis’ leadership.
Complete list of South Africa cricket team Captains:

  • Hashim Amla
  • AB de Villiers
  • Faf du Plessis
  • JP Duminy
  • Justin Ontong
  • Farhaan Behardien

  • Quinton de Kock
  • Graeme Smith:
Arguably South Africa's favourite captain of all time, Graeme Smith is the only captain in cricket’s history to have captained his team to 100 Test victories. As a captain, he has put up incredible numbers in all formats. At the age of 22, he was given captaincy duties. Smith seized the opportunity and contributed significantly to South African cricket's steeliness. In 109 Tests and 150 One-Day Internationals, he led South Africa to 53 and 92 victories, respectively. Smith also coached the team in 27 T20 matches, winning eighteen and losing nine.
  • Hansie Cronje:
In the history of South African cricket, Hansie Cronje is the country's greatest captain. Between 1994 and 2000, he was a well-known captain who led South Africa to victory in nineteen series. South Africa only lost four series during that period, earning a reputation as a formidable unit. He captained South Africa in 53 Tests and 138 One-Day Internationals, winning 27 and 99 games.
  • Shaun Pollock:
The all-rounder took the initiative and made significant contributions with both his batting as well as balling skills. Pollock displayed a strong commitment to the team, despite his lack of natural leadership qualities. He led South Africa to eight Test series victories and 12 One-Day International series/tournaments victories. His captaincy, however, came to an end in a traumatic way when a fatal Duckworth-Lewis target miscalculation led to South Africa's humiliating exit in the 2003 World Cup in their own country.
  • Faf du Plessis:
Plessis is widely regarded as one of the most successful South Africa cricket team captains. Thanks to his amazing strategic skills and leadership abilities, he made South Africa a strong cricket team. Plessis captained South Africa in 36 Tests, 39 ODIs, and 40 T20Is, winning 18, 28, and 25 of them, respectively.
  • Kepler Wessels:
After their readmission to cricket in 1991, Kepler Wessels captained South Africa. He is well-known for expertly managing the team's bowlers and transforming the team into a formidable force in international cricket. South Africa's first World Cup was led by Wessels. He captained the team in 16 Tests and 52 One-Day Internationals.

Performance in past T20 World Cup tournaments

The South Africa Team for the T20 World Cup had a poor start to their T20 campaign in 2021, losing their first match to Australia. However, the team regained its form and won three consecutive matches in 2021, defeating the West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. South Africa's bowlers have handled the pressure admirably. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, the pace duo, had taken 13 wickets between themselves in the entire championship. Tabraiz Shamsi, a left-arm spinner, has six wickets to his name. In his 3/17 overs against the West Indies, Dwaine Pretorius was impressive. De Kock had returned with scores of 7, 16, and 12 in the three matches he had played in 2021.

Likely predictions for 2022 T20 World Cup

The South Africa cricket team has yet to win a T20 World Cup final. As a result, the 2009 and 2014 editions (held in England and Bangladesh, respectively) had the best results, with both teams finishing as semi-finalists. The t20 squad finished third in their group with two wins and two losses in the last Super 10 stage, missing out on a semi-final spot. With Group 2 being strong this year, South Africa for the T20 world cup may not make as remarkable a comeback as expected by avid lovers of the sport, Fantasy Cricket players and spectators.
