England emerged victorious in the 2022 edition, and the cricketing world is buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States starting on June 1st, 2024. For the first time, the matches will be played between 20 teams. This also marks the first time the tournament will be played in the USA and the second time it will be held outside the traditional West Indies venues.

About T20 World Cup

The ICC T20 World Cup started in 2007 in South Africa when India defeated Pakistan. It has been held in eight editions so far.
The event is expected to be hosted every two years except when an ICC World Cup collides in the same year. In such cases, it is hosted a year before the World Cup.
Looking ahead, the 2024 edition of the tournament is set to be hosted by the West Indies and the United States, marking a significant milestone as it will be the first major ICC event that will be held in North America.
The ICC T20 World Cup 2020 that was supposed to be organised by Australia was pushed to 2021, and ICC T20 World Cup 2021 that was to be hosted by India was pushed to 2022.
Both countries retained the right to host these tournaments, albeit in reverse order, i.e., India hosted the T20 World Cup in 2021, and Australia would host it in 2022.

West Indies and England are the only teams to have won the Men’s T20 World Cup more than once. The West Indies secured the trophy in 2012 and 2016. On the other hand, England won their first Men's T20 World Cup in 2010 and then clinched the title again in the previous tournament of 2022.

About T20 2024 World Cup

The 9th edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 is being co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America. Know all about the upcoming super-interesting tournament here:
  1. When will the next T20 World Cup start?
    The T20 World Cup 2024 is expected to commence from June 1 to June 29, 2024 in the West Indies and USA.
  2. How many teams are there in the 2024 T20 World Cup?
    In line with the tournament format, around 20 teams are expected to participate in the 2024 edition.
    As hosts, the West Indies and the USA have gained direct entry into the Super 12 stage. The top eight teams include England, the reigning champions of the 2022 edition, second-ranked Pakistan, and other teams like India, New Zealand, Australia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and the Netherlands.
    The 20 teams listed below have qualified for the World Cup and will be divided into four groups as follows:
    Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, USA
    Group B: England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, Oman
    Group C: New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea
    Group D: South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Nepal
    Following the Group stage, the top two teams from each of the four groups will move into the Super 8 stage of the tournament, where they will be placed into two groups of four teams.
    The four teams are then expected to play in the next round. The two global qualifiers will decide the remaining four positions.
    Upon completing the Super 8 stage, the top two teams from each group will progress to the Semi-Finals.
    T20 World Cup 2022 Host Nation
    The 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America. The matches will be played in nine iconic host venues, six in the West Indies and three in the USA.
    The venues for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 are listed below:
    • Texas: Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium, Dallas
    • Florida: Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium, Lauderhill
    • New York: Nassau County International Cricket Stadium
    • Antigua & Barbuda: Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound Antigua
    • Barbados: Kensington Oval, Bridgetown
    • Guyana: Providence Stadium, Providence
    • St Lucia: Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet
    • Trinidad & Tobago: Kingstown Brian Lara Cricket Academy
    • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: Arnos Vale Ground, Arnos Vale
    Around 55 matches in total are scheduled in this tournament. The Final Match will be hosted at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 29, 2024.
    T20 World Cup 2024 schedule
    The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in the West Indies and USA from 1 June 2024 to 29 June 2024. The tournament will have 55 action-packed matches that will be played across this duration. The team lists are expected to be rolled out closer to the date of the tournament.
