It has evolved as a global tournament from an Indian domestic tournament. Nowadays, every cricket-playing nation sets aside a couple of months for IPL in their cricketing calendar.

There are many cricketing and non-cricketing reasons behind this tremendous craze and popularity of this franchise-based league across the world. One of those major cricketing reasons is its capability of delivering nail-biting matches day after day and year after year.
In the IPL, RCB vs. SRH is one of those thrilling matches, where twists and turns are guaranteed till the last over. The previous RCB vs. SRH match highlights and RCB vs. SRH scorecards are proof of this.

RCB vs SRH Match History

Let's take a look at the history of these two teams. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been in the tournament from the first season of the Indian Premier League in 2008. In contrast, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) started their IPL journey in 2013, when Hyderabad-based franchise Deccan Chargers was terminated.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has reached three finals but failed to win the IPL title. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad won their first IPL title in 2016, defeating none other than Royal Challengers Bangalore.
So, historically, the rivalry between these two teams has been phenomenal and eventful. It is also considered one of the southern derbies of IPL, where two teams from the south play against each other to show their dominance.

Many big names of international and domestic cricket have been a part of these two franchises. Kane Williamson, Jason Roy, Rashid Khan, David Warner, Jason Holder are some of the big names in the world of Fantasy cricket who have played for SRH in the last few years. Indian players like Bhuveneswar Kumar, Wriddhiman Saha, Priyam Garg, Abhisek Sharma were also part of SRH.
On the other hand, RCB has always been the home of superstars. Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, Yuzvendra Chahal, Dan Christian, and many more big names of world cricket were part of the RCB camp last year. Along with these superstars, young players like Devdutt Paddikkal, Harshal Patel, Shahbaz Ahmed, George Garton also played brilliantly and took the team to the playoffs.

Performance in IPL 2021

Before 2021, SRH was one of the consistent teams to reach the playoffs, and RCB’s performance in this tournament over the years was a mixture of hot and cold. But in 2021, it was completely the opposite. Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore played exceptionally well last year. RCB was the third team to qualify for the playoffs with 18 points. Glenn Maxwell did a phenomenal job with the bat and completely overshadowed the not-so-good batting form of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. In bowling, Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj gave their career-best performances last year. Harshal picked 32 wickets and won the purple cap.
On the other hand, it was a horrible season for SRH, and they would want to forget it as soon as possible. There were many on and off-the-field issues that made their performance worse that season. Even the change in captaincy could not change their fate. They won only three matches, and were at the bottom of the points table with only six points. Surprisingly, one of these three wins was against RCB.

RCB vs. SRH head to head

Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad has always lived up to expectations and provided us with some great matches in the past. In the history of IPL, both the teams faced each other in 20 matches. Among those 20 matches, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won 11 matches. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won in 8 matches, and one match did not give any result. So, we can say Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has the edge over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as far as statistics are concerned. Virat Kohli is the second-highest run-getter in RCB vs. SRH matches (504 runs) after David Warner (562 runs), who won’t be a part of SRH anymore.

Retentions

But before IPL 2022, both the teams have gone through many changes. RCB skipper Virat Kohli has clarified that he will not be the captain of RCB anymore but will continue as a regular player. So, the RCB management will search for a new captain in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Although Virat will not be the captain, his on-field presence and dominance will not be any less. Along with him, RCB has retained Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj. Maxwell scored 513 runs in 15 matches last year with an average of 42.75, and Siraj picked 11 wickets in 15 matches. So these three players will be their biggest trump cards if they want to defeat SRH.
On the other side, SRH has changed its entire team structure after its miserable performance in 2021. They have announced Kane Williamson as their full-time captain. Kane Williamson is currently one of the top three batters across the world. Not only with his classy batting, but Williamson can also change the dimensions of a match at any point with his captaincy skills. The SRH management has also assigned some famous former cricketers in various roles. They have appointed Tom Moody as head coach, Simon Katich as an assistant coach, Brian Lara as batting coach and strategic advisor, Dale Steyn as fast bowling coach, Muttiah Muralitharan as spin bowling coach.
Hopefully, under this new leadership, they will play good cricket in 2022. Along with their captain Kane Williamson, they have retained young fast bowler Umran Malik and all-rounder Abdul Samad. Last year, Umran impressed everyone with his raw pace. This young uncapped fast bowler from Jammu can bowl at 150 kmph constantly. Under the guidance of Dale Steyn, he will most likely be a more dangerous bowler. Uncapped Abdul Samad can contribute with both bat and ball. With his power-hitting ability, he can perform the role of a finisher in the team and be the sixth bowling option on the team. These two players will make their impact in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Wrapping Up

So the excitement is sky-high for the spectators of both sides as they prepare to build a good team in the upcoming auction - a team that can compete well for the title. Moreover, the clash between these two heavyweights will be a treat to watch for the fans, as it has been over the years.
